People spend their time working or studying, we are busy all the time, but when we have free time, what do we do? Or where do we go? When we are not working or studying, we have to go the supermarket to buy our food, visit our family or our friends, play with our kids, watch tv, listen to the radio, do a sport or relax. So, during our relax time, what do we do to relax? Watch Game of Thrones? Well, maybe, but there is a problem. A Game of Thrones’ episode is once a week: Sundays. What a pity! So, what do we watch the rest of the week? Yes, that same word comes to my mind. Oh we thought about soccer.
Talking about soccer, there was an international men’s tournament that was hosted in the United States in 2016 called Copa América Centenario (in English Centennial Cup America). It is important to say that was the first hosted outside South America.
This tournament was in June and the dates were from 3rd to 26th. There were 16 teams and the final positions were: Champions: Chile; second place: Argentina; third place: Colombia; and fourth place: the United States.
So, how do people live this passion in Latin America? The most important soccer players in the world came from Latin America, for instance: Pele (Brazil), Maradonna (Argentina) and Messi (Argentina). In Latin America, Brazil and Argentina are known by his soccer players and of course it is important to notice that nowadays there are wonderful players in this continent: James Rodríguez, Neymar Jr, Edinson Cabani, Luis Suárez, Salomon Rondón, etc.
People paint their faces with the flag of their countries, wear shirts, shout when there is a goal, cry when their team loses a game, sing. They do all of those things only because of this passion called soccer.
