At eighteen, he became part of the team who would go to win both the Champions League and the Spanish League with Dutch Coach Frank Rikjard. Within the course of the years, Messi has not only won important tittles, but also has broken records and received praises from some of the most distinguish players in history
- Over breaking the record of 85 goals in one year belonging to Gerd Muller, the German footballer said: “He is an incredible player, gigantic.”
- Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been known for his high level of competition with the Argentinian footballer, said: “We are different in every aspect. But right now, he is the best.”
- Diego Armando Maradona about Messi’s talent: “I have seen the player who will inherit my place in the Argentinian football and his name is Messi.”
On a more personal level, Messi is romantically involved with Antonella Roccuzzo, the cousin of a friend and a fellow native from his hometown Rosario, Argentina. They met when they were kids and still today, people joke with him about his face whenever he would see her. The couple has two sons, Thiago and Mateo.
